Help beat Bowel Cancer

Each December, Bowel Cancer Australia hosts “Decembeard”, a fundraiser encouraging people to get hairy while raising awareness and funds to help beat bowel cancer.

Bowel cancer is Australia’s second deadliest cancer.  It affects men and women, young and old. Australia has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world; 1 in 13 Australians will develop the disease in their lifetime.

Most bowel cancers start as benign, non threatening growths, called polyps, on the wall or lining of the bowel.  Polyps left undetected, can develop into a cancerous tumour.

Almost 99% of bowel cancer cases can be treated successfully when detected early.

Reduce your risk of bowel cancer by eating a healthy diet and making positive lifestyle choices, as well as screening and surveillance.
