Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

June 2021

June is “Bowel Cancer Awareness Month” – Bowel Cancer Australia’s signature event to raise awareness and crucial funds for Australia’s second deadliest cancer.

While the risk of Bowel Cancer increases significantly with age, the disease does not discriminate, affecting men and women, young and old.  Australia has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world, with 1 in 13 Australians developing the disease in their lifetime.

Most bowel cancers start as benign, non-threatening growths – called polyps, on the wall or lining of the bowel.  Polyps are usually harmless; however some polyps can become malignant and if left undetected, can develop over time into a cancerous tumour.

Choosing a healthy diet and positive lifestyle choices as well as screening, can help reduce your risk of Bowel Cancer.

If you have concerns about your risk or symptoms, please book an appointment with your GP by calling reception on 07 5468 0100 or via the website –
